I got back from Maui & the to-do list was brutal

Sister – If you truly want to build a legacy, you have to know the difference between transaction and devotion.

A couple weeks ago, I got back from Maui to a to-do list that had piled up while I was gone, plus a couple of extra speaking engagements I’d said yes to on top of it. I sat down at my desk and felt this rising, physical urge to crawl out of my own skin. Not metaphorically. I wanted to contort myself right out of the four walls of my office.

This wasn’t the first time. It won’t be the last.

In those moments, the work still has to get done. So I’ve had to learn how to reclaim my freedom from inside the crucible, not by escaping it.

What is freedom, really? We think of it as options, as the ability to walk away. But what if there was another way – that actually created true & lasting inner freedom?

Think about a mother. She gives her life over to her child completely, and no one calls that a cage. We call it the most liberated love there is.

Devotion… many of us know what it feels like to give ourselves so fully to the people we serve that our own ego stops being the main character.

We can only experience the magic of a truly great business if we have the audacity to make it about something bigger than us.

I’m an idealist when it comes to entrepreneurship, but I’m not talking hustle-culture fairy tales here. I’m talking about business as a crucible for your own personal development, a path to self actualization.

The kind of business that’s not just about the revenue or the number of followers you have, but because of who it turned you into along the way… and the deeper transformation you provided your clients.

And let’s be honest, some days devotion doesn’t feel like freedom at all.

So, when that crawl-out-of-my-skin feeling comes on, I have to remember the business is the crucible, not the cage, and that the fastest way back to myself is through my body, not around it.

So I double down on caring for it. Some days that’s running to the ocean and letting the cold water shock me back into my skin. Some days it’s booking a ticket to Maui so I know it’s on the calendar.

Some days it’s putting on my favorite song, getting naked, and dancing until I remember I live in this body, I’m not just a to-do list wearing a person.

A leader is only as free as she is willing to surrender, and only as steady as she is willing to tend to her own body while she does it.

When you shift your identity from “me, building a business” to “my life, given over to the people I serve,” your work becomes the greatest mirror for who you’re becoming.

And you get to wake up to a kind of inner liberation and awareness of your contribution – that you did all you can in this life. You said yes to the Universe when it called. You bowed down to your maker.

You became a powerful team member of the great awakening.

Keep going, Sis. Your clients are waiting.

Let’s serve them, and let’s get free.

Love, Sage
