I Just Got Back from India – My Heart is Blown Open

Hey Sis

I just spent 13 days in India, and the honest truth is… I’m still integrating all that unfolded there. It’s been raw, messy, blissful, and utterly incredible. My heart feels both tender and expanded beyond what I imagined possible.

My primary motivation for going was to meet over 300 girls we’ve had the honor of supporting through our partnership with the Girl Power Project and my dear friend Vivian Glyck. Standing alongside these girls was one of the most humbling experiences of my life.

Something I don’t often share is that I was abused and mistreated in my childhood. This cause of empowering girls to stand up to abuse… is deeply personal to me. (And to so many women).

On those days when sitting at my computer feels like the last thing I want to do, and when it feels like the world is changing so quickly and so uncertain…

I think of my younger self. I think of these girls, their courage AND their resilience to keep rising at this time on planet earth… And I find the energy to keep fighting for what I believe in.

As we’ve grown over the years, Women Rocking Business has had the honor of growing even during times of economic downturn.

And so, every year, we keep donating & raising hundreds of thousands of dollars to provide these girls with empowerment training. This program helps prevent childhood pregnancy, early marriage, and other challenges that we all know are crucial to address.

When we got off the bus, we were greeted by hundreds of girls, dancing and drumming to Bollywood music. They rushed to hug us, their joy palpable and contagious. I even sat next to the principal of one of the schools that welcomed the Girl Power Project into his curriculum.

In a country where gender inequality runs deep, his decision was bold. I took his hands, looked into his eyes, and said, “Thank you for loving our girls.” His eyes welled up with tears.

Two full days with these girls resulted in more selfies than I think I’ve taken in my entire life. Their smiles, laughter, and fierce determination are etched in my heart.

From there, we traveled to Rishikesh to witness the sacred Aarti fire ceremony on the banks of the Ganges River at the foothills of the Himalayan Mountain Range.

We had the honor to join hundreds of devotees who gather to release what no longer serves – through song, fire, and prayer was profoundly moving. Their unwavering devotion reminded me of the power of letting go to make space for what truly matters.

As I reflect on this journey, I want to share three takeaways that can help you grow your business this year:

  1. Partner with a Philanthropic Cause You Care About:
Aligning your business with a cause can infuse your work with purpose AND help you stand out in a changing world. For example, if you’re a sacred sexuality coach, consider partnering with an organization fighting sex trafficking. Not only does this uplift others, but it also strengthens your brand’s integrity and connection with your community.
  2. Plan Trips That Are Meaningful to You:
Don’t get so caught up in the hustle that you neglect what fills your soul. Traveling to India wasn’t comfortable—I’m used to clean ocean air and an organic king-sized mattress. But stepping out of my comfort zone to experience this journey was deeply nourishing. Make time for your bucket-list trips; they recharge your spirit and inspire new perspectives.
  3. Ritualize Your Business:
Just as the rituals in India changed me, consider creating your own and leaning into those you already do. Whether it’s starting each day with gratitude, lighting a candle before meetings, or setting monthly intentions, these practices can ground you and amplify your leadership and resiliency.

Looking into these girls’ eyes and witnessing their courage and strength… gave me courage.

I hope I can share that courage (and strength, and resiliency) with you RIGHT NOW.

I’ve returned home ready to square my shoulders to take EVERYTHING I’m learning and to keep bringing it back to YOU – so you can build a resilient, philanthropic business that YOU love.

Namaste,
Sage
