So let’s dive in.

Sage Lavine

Happy social media proofing your business day! I am so excited to get you some tools this week to help you really embrace the tools that are at your fingertips, so that you can diversify your marketing and make sure that your business isn’t dependent on any one platform or software working. Because the truth is that your gift is not dependent on any one piece of technology. It’s not dependent on the one cell phone you have, or the one laptop you have. Your gift is your gift and life is gonna happen. Life is going to throw us curve balls. Many of us lived through… O M G.

Sage Lavine

We like totally lived through like six or seven hours without Facebook a few days ago. I want to speak into this. I want to get you some tools, so you don’t have to be afraid of that happening. I want to help you like, bring some levity into the whole thing, because like, it’s all, it can all be a fun game. It really can.

I just giggle at all of the ways that humans get, you know, so dependent on our systems and so judgmental of things when they’re not perfect and they don’t work. Right? Because we all know Facebook is amazing…and it’s also totally imperfect. Kind of like me. Kind of like you, like, it’s all imperfect.

Sage Lavine

We’re living in a totally broken world. I think the more we blame and expect things to always work perfectly, that will also end up curveballing back on us. Right? Like the backlash of that is when you make mistakes, when I make mistakes, then we can find ourselves beating ourselves up. That is just completely unnecessary. Okay. So you’re not a robot. You are human. You get to be human. The more ambitious you are, the more ambition you have, the more gentle you’ve got to be with yourself. Okay. So that’s number one. Second of all, our resources are going to fail us mercury and all kinds of other planets are going to go into retrograde.

Sage Lavine

However you want to think about it…, but it’s becoming more and more important to diversify your business and not be dependent on any one platform. Now, because a platform like Facebook can shut down for the better half of a day, do we all need to get our undies in a bundle and like run the other platforms? I don’t think so. I think there’s a lot of resources that these big social media companies have to get up and running, which they prove to us to get up and running again. Facebook is amazing. Like, where else are you going to be able to host free groups? You know mark things, as announcements send private messages to people, have all kinds of totally free organic marketing happening for you.

Sage Lavine

I wouldn’t recommend that you do anything in your business from a place of being hair on fire. So take a breath into that.

I recommend that you explore other options that you have other resources waiting for you if you were ever to need them. We have a couple of sites that we really like where we know that we can host our online communities. We’ve already started building online communities in a platform called circle.so. It’s a great resource in the instance that our communities on Facebook shut down, we’re going to be able to move over there really quickly by emailing our clients, emailing our followers and also texting them. So in addition to having alternate online communities, kind of in your back pocket, if you need, I like circle dot.so.

Sage Lavine

I also like a network called mightynetworks.com. I’ve heard great things about it. It looks really awesome to me when I checked it out. So those are two that I recommend you just have in your back pocket. Second of all, in addition to email, because email is great. Like some people are saying “email marketing is dead.” Those people are probably not making money using emails. We are. Many of my colleagues are making millions of dollars a year and very much connected to the email marketing that we do. The thing about email marketing, you guys is that in email marketing, you end up in people’s inboxes versus with social media, you can really only reach them when they’re on social media and they’re not on there all day.

Sage Lavine

Email marketing is just a little bit more active versus social media marketing, which is a little bit more passive because in email marketing, right, you actually show up in their inbox. Now there’s some things you’re going to want to do to stay out of spam filters and promotion filters and things like that. You can ask your people to mark you as a safe sender. It’s a really important thing to do now with the way spam filters are, but because it’s true, email marketing works, but not everybody checks their email all the time. We also recommend that you get set up sooner rather than later, to collect texts, to collect SMS, to collect phone numbers. So you can text people.

Sage Lavine

We recommend Textedly. It’s a great service to be able to collect phone numbers and then send out large groups of texts to people and get their permission first.Be really friendly, be short and use brevity, but be inviting and let people know what’s coming up and send out inspirational quotes and reaching people on their phone number on their cell phone is such a hot thing to do. That way, you get to sleep well at night, knowing that if a social media site is not up one day, you’ve got a backup way to set up your communities in a platform like circle.so or Mighty Networks.

Sage Lavine

You know, that you can always reach people by texting them by emailing them. And you get to walk through your business with a level of peace of mind that you have ways of connecting with people. That’s kind of the new virtual language. You know, it used to be that the way that we found people was at networking events and going out and about, and the virtual world is never going away as we’ve all come to understand. Meeting people live, meeting people at live events is going to be an incredible resource for your business. But learning this more virtual language is really going to set you up for long-term sustainability and to really set yourself up to not be dependent on one communication.

Sage Lavine

If you’re one of those people, that’s just like, “Hey, I hate *fill in the blank* Instagram, Facebook, social media. I hate those platforms.. Like I’m sick of it. I hate them. Facebook owns everything now, right? If Facebook goes down, so does Instagram. So does WhatsApp.”

If you’re over there kind of fighting against that, I also invite you to remember that the more you take action to create diversity and the way that you communicate with your audience and your ideal clients and your paying clients. When you create that diversity, then you get to bring a sense of power back into your body instead of pointing the finger, you’re actually pointing it at yourself.

Sage Lavine

You’re calling yourself into a bigger game. You don’t have to walk around angry, right? You’re channeling that –  by the way, anger and creativity, they come from the same energetic channel, like in Chinese medicine. So getting in action and channeling that anger as creativity, as creating as building an even more solid platform for your businesses, one of the best things that you could do, and that way you have backup. You know you have backup and you can go out in the world and feel confident that you’ll be able to reach your people, because we all know that in order to build a successful, successful business. Did I just say sex? In order to build a successful business… sexy and juicy and orgasmic and all the yummy things we love showing up for it.

Sage Lavine

In order to do that, we have to take 100% responsibility. We cannot always be pointing the finger or feeling like a victim to the monstrosity. Like whatever. The more successful you are, the more you’re going to be able to go live life on your own terms. So if there’s heat in you, if you get triggered, take it on. Don’t you dare put that on anybody else, because that is yours. It’s your heat. It’s your fire. We need that fire. That is the fire that transforms. That is the fire that fuels you to sit down at the computer, figure it out. Then when you’re done, go take a long lunch break, go romp in the woods, go get in the ocean like I do. Whatever you want to do.

Sage Lavine

You get to go do it because you got money coming in. You’re creating impact. You’ve got income. You’re able to give back to all the causes you love. Be a philanthropist, change lives, get on big stages. Do the things. Yeah, go do the things. That’s the answer. Be gentle with yourself. Have fun, have a great week. I hope this was helpful.

If this helped you, share it with a friend so that we can all diversify our marketing efforts and be free from dependency on any one platform and build that self-trust that we have in ourselves to go out and do the things…because your clients are waiting for you. They’re not just waiting for someone like you. They’re actually waiting for you. We’ll see you next week.
