S2E3: Why Boring Rocks in Biz

Welcome to Women Rocking Business, where we are here to help you rock yourself, rock your life, and rock the world as a woman entrepreneur, because the world needs you and the time is now. I’m Sage Lavine, CEO, trainer, unretired, camp counselor, and best-selling author of the Hay House book Women Rocking Business. We’ve had the honor of serving over a hundred thousand women entrepreneurs around the globe, just like you, who are here to do more, be more and have more by giving your gift to the planet. So let’s dive in.

Hello beauties! This topic for today is all about why boring rocks and why I actually want to invite you to consider pointing yourself towards something a little bit more boring in your business this week than some of your previous sort of “aha” moments.

Sage Lavine

I want to talk a little bit about how to keep you out of bright and shiny object syndrome, because this is just real. We are quantum lightworkers of magnitude. We are constantly having amazing ideas for podcasts we want to launch. Documentaries we want to launch. Books we want to write. Blogs we should get going on. Right?

It’s just like, we can actually have so many ideas that we don’t actually bring any of them all the way to completion in the way that yields the results that we’re really looking for. You know, the tens of thousands, the hundreds of thousands, the millions, right?

Sage Lavine

00:01:28

The reaching that many people, the making that much money and the things that will actually set you free in business so that you have that regular income coming in, so you can hire a team, sou can rest, you can take vacations. We don’t want to actually build our lives around our business. We want to make sure that we’re building a business around our abundant and incredible lives. So if you, like me, are guilty of doing a bunch of things or thinking about doing a bunch of things all at once. Give me a yes in the comments thread and in the Women Rocking Business Sisterhood and let us know specifically what you are guilty of. What are all the ideas are just 2 or 3of the ideas you’ve had in the last 10 minutes or in the last 10 days. Let’s just celebrate each other and be in a very real conversation together

Sage Lavine

00:02:11

So go ahead and pop that in the comments. I love reading those comments. They mean a lot to me.  I think as we get into this topic, I just want to out myself that it was several years ago when I had just started to come up a million dollar business and we are reaching hundreds of thousands of women and I’m spending a lot of my time on stages and I’m spending a lot of my time speaking and leading and teaching.  I was starting to get, like, it was all starting to catch up with me. A lot of passion had gotten my business as far as I had gotten it and I needed something else to get my business to the next level.

00:02:51

I was pretty burned out. I remember dragging myself to a mastermind and I was sitting in this little conference room with like 40 incredible high-level entrepreneurs that were all really successful. Some really impressive names, people I wanted to impress.  I’m sitting in the conference room and the whole time I was fantasizing about being in the spa. Haha I just want to bust myself. At lunchtime, my friend, Justin Livingston, and I were having a jam session and I was letting him know what was going on. And over a plate of chicken salad, I think I was eating tofu salad. He said to me, “Sage, if you want to work less, you need to stop creating new things.” And it was like this awareness washed over me and somebody like the clouds parted.

Sage Lavine

00:03:35

I was like, “Oh yeah, I’ve created a lot of things at this point.”

At that point, I had created a couple of different webinars, a video challenge. I had launched my YouTube channel. You know, I had hundreds of clients and programs, but there was all of this stuff going on.

So that afternoon, I didn’t go back to the mastermind. I went to the spa! I booked a massage right there in the hotel. Then I went and I sat out by the pool and I just brainstormed, “What are the 3 or 4 things out of everything that I’m doing that’s getting me the most ROI, the most return on investment and that I liked doing the most? And we’ve been doing that ever since.

We’ve been scaling, scaling and growing and growing ever since. Whether you’re starting your business for the first time and you’re just getting going, or you’re a little further along, there’s a few things I want you to keep in mind

Sage Lavine

00:04:21

A lot of you might be wondering, “What strategy should I go for next? Should I launch a podcast? Should I launch a YouTube channel?” All the things.

That’s not actually the question that’s probably going to get you to where you want to go in your business faster. You know, if you’re doing videos, by the way, video is going to convert the fastest, it’s kind of a no-brainer because you’re creating more intimacy with your clients when you’re on video than when it’s just your voice. So if you’re someone who’s willing to make videos, you don’t have to love video, but if you’re willing to make videos, making videos is going to really help you grab the attention of your ideal clients.

Sage Lavine

00:05:01

If you’re making videos right now, you know, you’re currently doing videos. Maybe you’ve tried a video challenge. Maybe you’ve done some videos on social media or Instagram live or into a Facebook group. If you’re making videos and you’re not getting paying clients, launching a podcast is not going to be the answer for you. Are you picking up what I’m laying down? The problem is not your strategy. The gap is probably more about your messaging, what you’re offering. Is it clear? Are you solving an immediate problem for your clients? Are you offering something that people will invest in?

That’s where we want to look to make sure that your actions are getting you a return on your investment, because if they’re not, we risk you running out of the time and the money and the passion to really get this business where it deserves to go because your gift, oh, sister, your gift is so needed right now.

Sage Lavine

00:05:59

So we have this window of time to get you going. That’s what I care the most about because the path to big impact and the path to big income is by finding the things that work. Again, video is going to create so much connection with your ideal clients and then doing those again and again and again, so that you can actually learn how to make it better and better and better.

Women don’t like chasing clients. We don’t want to chase clients, and we don’t want to end up in a business where we’re like a dancing bear and we have to go live on camera, we have to do all this stuff, brand new stuff, every single time we need a new client.

So what I recommend you guys do is… I recommend that you learn the strategy of using video to convert people into either a free breakthrough session with you, where you can sell a high-priced program or use video challenges where you actually are using videos multiple days in a row to really warm up an audience. This is why video challenges convert 10 to 20 to 50 times bigger and more than podcasts or YouTube channels, because those other strategies are longer-term strategies.

Sage Lavine

00:08:16

I’m not saying don’t do them, but when you’re in a position where you need clients, I’m going to really invite you to get better and more comfortable delivering some great content on video and making a very clear call to action. We call that a CTA. What’s the next step people can take with you, whether you’re sending them back to your website or your blog, or sending them into a social media group or into a free session with you when you send people into a free breakthrough session with you.

When you know how to have a conversation that results in people saying yes to you, you can literally with one video, change your financial reality in a very short amount of time, you know, one video and one free breakthrough session with the right person, when you know how to do this and you know how to build out that funnel and you know how to speak to your ideal clients. You can be enrolling $5,000 clients or $10,000 clients in a very short amount of time, change your financial reality, grow your confidence and be in a position where now you could hire an assistant to help you, and you can get your business to the next level.

You know, I’m a quick start, I’m a three on the Enneagram, right? Like I’m, I’m one of those people that just, I like to go for it. And I like to really put the fire under the butts of my clients so that they go for it. But it’s not for the sake of just spinning our wheels. I am so attached to and committed to your results.

Sage Lavine

00:09:44

That’s why I really want to put a stake in the ground that you rather than spinning out and getting caught in thinking, you need to do a million things at once, or you need to switch strategies. I want to invite you to really slow down and be that master. Like the Beatles said, Paul McCartney, you know, we put in $10,000, 10,000 hours, and then we become an overnight success, you know, be willing to slow down on behalf of speeding up and, you know, practice getting really clear with your message and how you can help people and how you describe that and how you present yourself on camera and how you lead people into that next step of investing in themselves.

Sage Lavine

00:10:27

That’s what’s going to pay off in your in your business. You know, I have a couple of clients I can use as examples.

Trisha Nelson is a client of mine who has done her Quit Sugar video challenge. Gosh, she’s done it a bunch of times, maybe 5, 6, 7 times, at least. At this point every time when she does it, she’s reaching thousands of women and she’s creating six figures of revenue to grow her team and grow her business. Each time she does it, she has more and more fun. She gets to know her, the women that are signing up and she goes deeper and she changes her marketing materials so that the ads that she’s using are more creative.

Same with my client, Robin Nielsen, who’s done her Hormone rReset like 15 times, you know, her Hormone Reset video challenge, and she’s served thousands of women helping them balance their bodies and balance their hormones, especially in menopause.

Every time she does her challenge, she gets better and better. Her team gets stronger and stronger and it becomes easier and easier. You know, she just got back from Mexico and told me that this past challenge was the easiest, most fun one she had ever done. We’re all creative. So instead of pouring your creativity into…”Now I need to launch a blog. Now I need to launch a podcast. Now I need to make sure I’m on all these different social media channels. I haven’t figured out Tik TOK yet. I haven’t figured out Clubhouse.”

Instead of pouring your creativity there, what if you were to pour your creativity into a classic, simple, and elegant strategy that we know is always going to work to warm up potential clients and customers, which is to build real relationships with them.

Sage Lavine

00:12:06

We can build real relationships when we’re face-to-face. Pour yourself into the creativity, that’s required to invite more people to watch your videos. “What kind of a graphic could I use? What kind of a 30-second video could I make to invite people into my weekly video or into my video challenge? Could I get more creative with a video ad or with a new graphic that would then afford me the possibility of having a hundred or 200 or 500 or 5,000 people watching my videos?”

Pour your creativity into what we call your top marketing, be creative in that realm of “How do I get people’s attention? How do I get eyeballs?” Rather than spinning out into all the other strategies that, quite frankly, can take weeks or even months to implement and may not actually yield any kind of immediate result.

Sage Lavine

00:12:55

So you can see why when we say business is boring, it doesn’t have to be boring, but the invitation to embrace boring, why bBoring can totally rock is because you can do the same thing. You could do the same video challenge. You could do the same weekly video in your social media group. You can do the same thing over and over again, and you can get better every single time you do it. Now you have email campaigns, you have marketing materials, you can use again and again, this way your business can grow and grow and grow and grow.

So instead of planting a seed and it starts to grow and you see the sprout coming up and you pull it out of the ground and you plant another seed, instead of doing that, you plant a seed and you nurture that seed and it grows and grows and grows, and it grows into a tree.

Sage Lavine

00:13:47

Then you get to climb in the tree and you get to nestle up in the tree and you get to take a nap because the tree is growing without you. That’s the stake I’m putting in the ground for every single one of you… to not shy away from strategies because they’re boring.

I hope this was helpful because we really are all in this crazy journey of building businesses together. I want to remind you that you are a quantum being of light and love and that you get to be a steward of your own creativity. When you are a steward of your own creativity and you channel it strategically and wisely, you can go as big as you want to go in business bigger than you ever thought possible.
